Meet the Grower; XAnthu Wijnen Anthurium

For more than 35 years, Wijnen grows high quality anthuriums. It is a real family business and is run with passion by Joan and Nancy Wijnen. What once started with 6000m2, the family business now covers an area of 5.2 ha. Their years of experience and the wide range of 35 varieties enable them to meet the demands of their customers.

The anthuriums are available in various sizes, lengths and packages. There is a daily fresh supply at the auctions Aalsmeer, Naaldwijk, Eelde and Herongen (Du). Since 2009, Wijnen Anthuriums also sell beautiful bouquets to private individuals. Fresh bouquets and arrangements are made every day, which are available in the shop at the nursery.

The Anthurium is a perennial crop, to ensure quality, plants are replaced by new, improved varieties after six years. At Wijnen, the anthuriums are grown as organically as possible. Sustainability is also a high priority here. For example, a wood-burning stove is used collectively, which reduces the use of gas by up to 90%.

Wijnen has been affiliated with the growers' association XAnthu for three years. A cooperative of cut anthurium growers, which consists of four anthurium growers who grow a total of 50 different varieties on 10 hectares. Special varieties like Fantasy Love, Caribo, Roxette, Romance Improved, Purple Heart, Amigo Improved and Elegancia are only available through XAnthu.
